Set up payouts (Stripe)

Before any guest can pay by card, the restaurant must complete Stripe Connect onboarding. You remain the merchant of record: charges go to your connected Stripe balance and pay out to your bank. Setup is done once per restaurant from the Payments page.

Eighty-Six only treats payments as live when both are true:

  1. Your plan has table payment enabled.
  2. Stripe reports that your connected account can accept charges (charges_enabled).

Until then, guests cannot complete a card payment at the table.

Status Meaning What to do
Not available Plan does not include table payment Upgrade under Settings → Billing, or contact your owner
Setup needed No Stripe account finished yet Click Set up payouts
Action needed Stripe still needs information Click Continue setup and finish verification
Active Guests can pay; money can settle Optional: View payouts dashboard for bank and history
  1. Go to Payments in the left sidebar.
  2. On the Set up payouts card, click Set up payouts.
  3. You leave Eighty-Six briefly and complete Stripe’s form (business type, bank account, identity checks). This usually takes a few minutes.
  4. When Stripe is done, you return to the CRM with ?onboarding=done (or refresh if you need to resume). The page reloads status automatically.
  5. Wait until the card shows Payouts active with a green Active badge. If it still says Action needed, open Continue setup and finish any missing steps.

Until Stripe onboarding is finished, Payments shows Setup needed and a single Set up payouts action.

On the active card you can:

  • Confirm guests can pay at the table.
  • Open View payouts dashboard — a secure Stripe Express login link in a new tab (balances, bank details, payout schedule).
  • Set When customers pay (pay per round vs pay at end). See When customers pay.
  • Couldn’t start onboarding — check your network and try again; if it persists, contact support with your restaurant name.
  • Stuck on Action needed — use Continue setup rather than starting from scratch; Stripe resumes where you left off.
  • Guests see payment unavailable — confirm the page shows Active, table ordering is on, and the guest is on a real table QR (not a stale bookmark).
  • Wrong Stripe account — payouts are per restaurant; switch restaurant in the sidebar switcher before opening Payments.
